Q. "Why is Writer Webs Exclusively for Authors?"
A. For over ten years I have worked in web design, from small startup businesses to global corporations. Although the money was great, it didn't stoke my creativity. I found inspiration again while working with a writer's community. But sadly, I also found that most writer's web sites leave much to be desired. So, I decided that Writer Webs would be tailored to the needs of authors.
Q. "Why do I need a website as an author?"
A. One of the most common questions include "why should I buy a professional website when I can build one myself" and "why do I need a website if I'm not published yet?". While it's true, you don't need a website, I can guarantee it's the best marketing investment you will ever make. Especially if you're yet to be published. Most publishers will not make significant promotional investments in customers until after three books are published by them. And then, do you really want to place your entire online marketing promotion in the hands of your publisher? Agents, Editors, and Publishers are all surfing the web, just like you. Researching, learning, networking. A bad website can hurt you just like a bad query letter or synopsis. A professional website, however, says "Look at me! I'm taking charge - I am not only a good writer, but I know the business and I'm ready to make myself a success." There are writers who have taken their careers much further than they normally would have by simply promoting. And a professional website is the easiest way to reach the largest audience.
Q. "Who is the Writer Webs designer?"
A. I'm Brandon. I've been working in web design for over ten years. I love all things design oriented, and in my spare time, I'm an aspiring songwriter, poet, and musician. You can find out more about me at my personal website: http://www.timbrewolf.com/
Q. "If I get a website, is it difficult to maintain?"
A. Not at all! Your website can be updated whenever you want (easily with our Edit Points that come with the Short Story and Novel Packages) - or as little as you'd like. You may just want to have a list of your books and some information about yourself, or you may want to keep a daily journal of your progress. Either way, one of my goals with Writer Webs is to make your website hassle-free!
Q. "How do people find my website?"
A. Just like books, it's all in the promotion! From word of mouth, to forums and community involvement, to search engine submissions and adding your website address to your business cards and stationery. Writer Webs will make sure you are registered with the popular search engines using specific keywords and designing the site to help people find you on the web. However, to have a truly successful website, you will want to self-promote and get the word out! Your audience will find you, though, and maybe even a publisher or agent!
Q. "What if I can't afford a website?"
A. To be honest, there's a lot of very expensive designers out there. I've set the prices for Writer Webs packages to be affordable to even the starving artists. I don't negotiate prices, however, I am willing to work with any author serious about their career and wanting to get their website up and running. Generally, we can come up with a payment structure that works to fit your budget.
Q. "I'm nervous that I don't know what I want, what can I do?"
A. The best thing to do is fill out the contact form, let me know that you're interested but don't know what you want - most people are unsure to begin with. I've developed a questionnaire that asks a variety of straight-forward questions (like "What type of house would you like to have built" and "What type of tea do you like?") that will help me get a profile of what you like and what you would want in a website. The most important thing is to become proactive! Write me, I'll happily answer questions to help you decide what is best for your site. Besides, I love getting mail!
